The Niger River is a sight to see on its own, but when on the cruise, take advantage of the other activities and destinations. In the country of Mali, you can venture into the Sahara Desert, accompanied with a guide, chef and vehicle and/or camels. You can visit the Ahmed Baba Centre, founded in 1970 by the Malian government in collaboration with UNESCO, a library for higher Islamic learning. Texts on philosophy to astronomy can be found in this library, representing Timbuktu's long history as an intellectual, spiritual and academic gathering place.

enjoys UNESCO world heritage status. It's centrepiece being the Great Mosque of
Djenne, is the largest mud brick building in the world. The entire community
takes a part in the maintenance of the mosque as well, annually repairing damage
done to the mosque mainly from erosion caused by rain and change in humidity.
